Evening all,
Well the painting is starting to draw to a close as we set about finishing the two walls for christmas and new year.
The wall next to the door has now had two coats of mellow sage or green as we call it and so looks complete up top, the picture rail also received a coat of undercoat before that joins the rest in being a holly green.
The lower half of the wall has been given a an undercoat of sandy yellow that was put on the ceiling mostly because we have a 1/2 a tin left over so the magnolia will sit nicely on top of this colour....hopefully.
We also unwrapped all the layout from its protective covers and made minor repairs and cleaned up the area.
Roger during the week has been busying coming down midweek to remove the rest of the old steel/tin skirting boards and dispose of them to the tip along with more bags of rubbish.
He has also managed to plaster up some areas so that way we could come in like tonight and paint without having to wait for plaster to dry. He also fit some new skirting boards in place of the old ones and plastered up to them.
Alan has been planning up where his next area will be now that we have uncovered all the layout again, cleaned it up and started any repairs to areas.
We also have had a reply from one of the train mags wanting to come up, photograph it and having as a feature in their mag.... so watch this space
Cheers for reading
Dan
Pictures will be added in due course but because im upto my limit on uploads and space im toying with ideas of either going with premium or maybe seeking other options.

Hello and welcome to RMRC
Well tonight saw us painting again finaly completing the ceiling and roof beams.
We started to make a start on the two final walls.
This included moving all the furniture out the way, removing all the rotten skirting boards that were made of metal!! also all the rotten wood was removed due to dry rot. This will all be renewed soon.
During this clearing we scraped some of the walls where plaster or just paint had started to flake.
After this the top area above the picture rail was cut in and given its first coat of green. we will have to see how this has turned out for when the second coat is applied.
We were all here tonight except alan who must of had other plans.
Cheers for reading.

Evening to all
Tonight saw Me, Keith and Alex give the entire ceiling/beams a second coat of sandy coloured paint.
This is no way an easy task as with the layout being in position and also being 25ft by 15ft it means you have to carefully work around it, Thank god we covered everything up before hand as paint can and will get everywhere.
We that by next Thursday the place should start to take shape with just a few places to give a second coat and touch ups.
Then its back onto the walls to make good and then paint lighter green also hopefully the covers etc can come off.
Alan tonight has been planing some of the mills for the soap works and has even made a start with some measurements for one, this guy is wasting no time !!
Roger didnt stay long as he wasnt feeling very well, hopefully he will be back to normal.
No pictures this week as i forgot my camera
Cheers anyway

Hello all,
welcome to the update for Thursday evening at Ramsbottom Model Railway Club.
Tonight mostly saw me, Reece, Alex and Keith all painting the ceilings and roof beams in a sandy colour. It has now had one full coat but will require one more and should be finished, we think that this will take us 2 to 3 weeks depending on paint and people.
The next task once thats finished will be the two final walls, one of which is ready to go and be painted the second will require some repair work and then painting.
All walls will then need to be touched up and we should then have a club room it for a club
Roger and Alan have been making more progress and planning the soap works area. Not much in detail this evening as they have also been assisting us with ladders etc.
Cheers
Pictures are found here if you would like to see.

Evening all.
Tonight saw the club take a big step in maybe saving money for the future and keeping us warm as we finally managed to finish off the insulating on the ceiling. Usally most of the heat is lost through where the old sky light windows use to be and as explained in one of the other posts is it basically just felt then slate laid over where they use to be where as now it has fibre board to keep us warm and snug,
Also tonight saw the start of ceiling beams start to get a coat of paint. We have chosen a coat of sand colour which has made the areas that we did manage to paint look a lot cleaner.
We are now going to be in need of alot of dust sheets/old duvets etc to lay over the entire layout whilst we paint. Hopefully the members will be able to find some.
Me and keith as stated above have been fixing the insulting boards up with no nails and slate nails which have a big head on them. alan and roger have been helping us pass and cutting the boards to size.
Then me and keith started painting the roof beams which is no easy task being 15ft up!!
Alan has finished off the soap works chimney which has been made out of two tubes of card glued together and wrapped in brick paper, sounds easy enough but not when you have to match up the bricks and make sure they are level looking.
He has also redisigned a roof for mill 10 as he didnt like the look of the other.
Roger has been making a roof for the garage in the wood yard and also made some gargoils for nuttall tunnel.
Alex is on holiday in York with his girlfriend for her birthday.
Reece is on holiday in the lakes...
I forgot my camera today as i was in a rush. hopefully tuesday will seen some progress being shown.
Cheers Dan

Hello
Firstly sorry for no report for Tuesday but we all had other things planned for that night so we didnt turn up.
Thursday saw alot of activity mainly to do with keeping the building warm
This saw me and keith with some help from roger and alex fitting insulation boards to the old skylight sections which have been felted over for years, this area is realy bad in winter as any heat just simply escapes through these.
First we set up two ladders one on either side of the layout where stubbins is and with one board balanced between two ladders and two people we positioned into place, tried using screws but it just wouldnt hold so we decided to use no nails and slating nails which worked a treat.
With me and Keith up the ladders we would remove any old nails out of the way then squirt alot of no nails along each wooden joist and then place the board onto it, find the joists with a long nail and nail in. simple.....
Till we started on the second sheet, remember these sheets measure 4ft wide so balancing with it isnt an easy task even when the sheet wont fit, so a bit of trimming later and more slat nails we had the second and third sheet in with just an odd section to do which alex said he would attempt.
With alex up a ladder he measured up the odd section and roger cut it out for him, keith passed it to him which by now he had covered the joists in no nails and armed with slating nails he began banging away....gentle wasnt an option with him!!
next he went round every joint and duct taped them to blend in.
Alan has been busy pottering away completing mill 8.
Pictures can be found here
Hopefully next week we will be there tuesday if not thursday.
See you
Dan

Hello and welcome to RMRC
Here is Thursdays report for the evening.
Roger - Carried on rubbing down the area for the 4th set of houses on harrison street and then plastered the area giving a final finish which looks smooth and level.
Dan - Started to give the toilet door a second coat of green gloss which hopefully should be dry by next week. The front door is going to require being rubbed down and then reglossed as it doesnt seem to of taken very well. Finally i started to make repairs to the wall opposite the toilet wall which has settlement cracks. for now we have used some decoraters caulk to see it this can be a quick fi as this wall is massive and would take weeks to dry if plastered. The overall result looks alright and should be ready for painting/plastering in certain areas.
Reece - Started to sand down the area that had been poly filled last week by alex, once this had been finished he decided to give the general place a clean with the hoover. All the carpets now look better. Alex even taught his how to run trains around the layout.
Keith - continued on making his little office for harrison street industrial yard. he also assisted alex in some track work as a train derailed near to the wagon works. the joint in the track work has dipped and will need packing just like the real thing
Alan - has seen more progress being made on mill 8 with all 4 sides of the mill being brought together and tested placed in where it should go. This mill will be the final mill which shuld seen harrison street and Kenyon street finished in terms of mills. The next project should be the soap/chemical works.
Pictures will be added on Monday.
Cheers Dan
Alex - Has been showing Reece how to drive/control a train on the layout. He and reece also found some more faults but after non runnning for a couple of months i guess it could be expected. Also helped reece to clean the track.

Evening All
Well firstly a BIG welcome to our new member to Ramsbottom Model Railway Club, he called Reece Hunt and as tonight has showed he isnt afraid to get stuck into any job.
Also i would like to say hello to Mark Harrison who popped in to say hello and even managed to run a few trains round which prooves that he still remembers how to
, Mark use to be a member in 1997 when me and Alex were still in high school with him.
Right well lets tell you what we did tonight.
Dan - Started the night off by fitting the new transformer under the board and splitting the existing tag board that powers Harrison street and mills 5-10 as to not blow this one
After a series of tests it showed that no problems had occured...thank god lol
Next on the list was to drill the hole, mount and fit the wires for Rogers wooden office that he had made weeks ago, This lit up nicely and looks realy good.
Alan had requested that mill 9/10 have lights installed inside them, so 3 grain of wheat bulbs followed by some solder and one left of cat and there you have some lights
.
The Toilet and front door also received a coat of Holly Green gloss, may need a second coat but we will see on Thursday.
Reece - Started off the night with a Pot Noodle to gain his energy for the up coming night.
Firstly armed with a small paint brush and an empty pot noodle pot with magnolia he started painting any bits of green that had spilled onto the wall from last weeks glossing. Then did the same but for the pale green, The difference can be seen
He has also prepped the next wall for painting.
Roger - He has glued his wood store down into place, also his wood office both in harrison street as also been glued down.
He also decided to try and make a bar like the sort you see in a pub to go onto the back of a wagon 00gauge bar though.
Alan - He has made all 4 walls for mill 8 and covered them in brick paper. He has also covered up my wiring in mill 9/10 with "floor boards".
Pictures of tonight can be found here
Well thats all for now see you all on Thursday.
Dan
